Obituary

Robert Lee "Bob" Haberman, age 89, of Meade, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Bob was born on November 14, 1935, in Larned, Kansas, to Emil and Hulda (Boese) Haberman. He graduated from Larned High School and married the love of his life, Elsie Suppes, on September 3, 1955, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in La Crosse, Kansas. They began their life together in Larned, where Bob worked at Robinson Hardware and later with the Larned Police Department.

In 1958, Bob began working for Rainbow Bread Company, a position that eventually led him and Elsie to settle in Meade, Kansas. Over the years, Bob's entrepreneurial spirit blossomed. He purchased the Ice Plant in 1963 and also worked with Fairmont Milk. In 1968, Bob and Elsie bought Fletcher's Drive-In, later renaming it Bob's Drive-In, which was family-owned and operated for 52 years.

Bob embraced retirement by spending quality time with his family, traveling, playing golf and cards, and enjoying countless games of Scrabble. For the last ten years, he and Elsie could often be found at local senior dances, where they shared their love of music and each other. Bob remained an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meade and was also devoted to his community, volunteering to deliver meals for the Beam Senior Center. In 1999, he and Elsie were honored as Meade's Citizens of the Year by the Meade Chamber of Commerce.

Bob is survived by his wife, Elsie, of the home; children, Cindy Hagemeier and husband Fred, Linda Davis and husband Doug, Sandy Haberman and Brian Cox, all of Meade, KS; Julie Burtis and husband Burt of Garden City, KS; and Robert Haberman and wife Joanne of Woodward, OK; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother, Don Haberman of Olympia, WA; and a sister, Betty Hulsey, and husband Gary of Larned, KS.
