Robert (Bob)
Elwood Keim
Jan 10, 1934 — May 10, 2025
Roseville
Robert "Bob" Elwood Keim, 91, of Roseville, California passed away on May 10, 2025, after a valiant battle with Parkinsons and beautiful long life filled with family and his love for his Lord Jesus.
Bob was born on January 10, 1934, to Elwood and Ann Keim in Miami, Florida. After graduating from Miami Senior High School in 1952, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1957 and his Engineering Certificate in 1960 at the University of Miami.
After he earned his degree, Bob was drafted in the Army right after graduation, working alongside the Army Corp of Engineers and was stationed in the Presidio in San Francisco, CA. After his service in the Army, Bob started his lifelong career with Caltrans as a civil engineer, focused on the major toll bridges in California, starting with construction of the San Francisco Bay Bridge double deck project. His career took him to the high suspension cables on the San Fransico Bay Bridge, construction of the foundations of the San Mateo Hayward Bridge, design of the San Diego Coronado Bridge, and maintenance of all the major toll bridges. Over the course of his career with Caltrans, he became known as the "walking archive." If there was a question about one of the major toll bridges, Bob had the answer.
In 1959, Bob met Dolores at Zion Lutheran Church in San Francisco. In 1961 surrounded by friends and family, they married at St John's Lutheran Church in Meade, Kansas, Dolores' home church, and were married for over 63 years.
Bob and Dolores have three children: David, Jeanette and Susan; two sons-in-law; Jay and Mark and one daughter-in-law Veronica; five grandchildren: Stephen, Raymond, Peter, Carolyn and Matthew; two granddaughters-in-law: Stephanie and Ana; one great granddaughter: Rosalina. Bob and Dolores lived in San Mateo California where they joined Grace Lutheran Church and bought their first and only home. Family and Religion was very important to Bob. The family spent time at the church, camping, hiking, school functions, boy scouts and family driving trips to Kansas and several long-distance trips to Florida. Bob was a Boy Scout leader for many years. The highlight trip with the scouts was hiking in the Grand Canyon.
After 41 years working for Caltrans Bob retired in 2000. Bob and Dolores spent time cruising to Alaska, busing and riding a train through Canada, site seeing and slowly sailing along the Rhine River in Germany and driving to different areas in the United States. One of Bob's favorite trips was his cruise from San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale, Florida which traveled through the Panama Canal. The locks on the canal were fascinating to him.
As a servant of Christ, throughout his life, Bob was a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Leader, Tenor in the choir, Church Elder, Stewardship Board Chairman, Parish Education Chairman, attended weekly bible class, daily devotions and prayers, avid religious book reader.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Elwood and Ann Keim and his brother Tom. He is survived by his wife Dolores, his sister Joan, his children; his children in law; his grandchildren; his grandchild through marriage, his great grandchild and great grandchildren through marriage.
Funeral services and burial will take place in Meade Kansas on June 19, 2025. Following interment, a celebration of life will be held on June 28, 2025, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Roseville.
