Richard (Rich) G. Knott
April 5, 1931 – April 25, 2021, Fowler Residential Care, Fowler, Kansas.
Rich was born the youngest of seven sons born to Joseph Verl and Lena (Speake) Knott. He grew up and lived most of his life in Plains, Kansas. As a young man, he and his brothers played baseball for the Walsh Legionaires in Walsh, Colorado. The Knott brothers made up most of the team and Rich was the ace pitcher. He was passionate about baseball and even pitched briefly for the Brooklyn Dodgers farm team in Florida in 1949. He was a welder for Panhandle Eastern until his retirement in 1988. He then started his second career driving a semi until his health forced him into full-time retirement.
He enjoyed watching Cubs baseball, taking care of his lawn, and playing cards, keno, and video poker. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Knights of Columbus in Plains and most recently a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meade.
On January 16, 1952, Rich married Agnes P. Eakes and they raised their six children in Plains. He is survived by Agnes, Meade; three sons, Richard L. (Brenda) Meade, Larry (Cheryl) Fowler, and Gary, Meade; and three daughters, Jeanne (late Phil) Babcock, Holcomb, Pam (Roger) Kaiser, Howard, Colorado, and Sherry Knott, Scott City. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and one grandchild, Shane Cravens.
Memorials are suggested to the Fowler Residential Care Center or Team Treston in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
