Obituary

Nancy Ella (Feldman) Ohnick went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 31, 2026.  Nancy was born to Robert and Esther Feldman on December 3, 1946, in Meade, KS.  She graduated from Meade High School in 1964.  Upon graduation she journeyed to Fulda, Germany to marry Dan Dorsey who was stationed there.  After returning to the States, they made their home in many places starting in Liberal, KS; Kansas City, MO; Terre Haute, IN; and Council Bluffs, IA; eventually settling in Meade, KS.  During this time Nancy was a mother and homemaker.  Following her divorce from Dan, she met and married Rod Ohnick in December 1979 and moved to Plains for a short period before returning to Meade.

In 1981 Nancy used her creativity and many artistic talents to open the Farmer's Daughter arts and crafts store.  Five years later her interest turned to graphic design and she opened Backroom Printing in 1986. She took Rod off the farm and made him into a printer and a business man.  They published the Meade County Mercantile, did print jobs of all kinds and sold office supplies.  She was active in the community and the local chamber of commerce. Nancy ventured into the publishing business starting with the Cimmaron Chronicles, and went on to publish several southwest Kansas histories.  She also authored "Dalton and Their Family Ties", a Dalton family history. In 2005, she and Rod divorced and sold Backroom Printing.

Nancy curated the local museum, was on the historical society board, active in the First Baptist Church and did voluntary bookkeeping for a few organizations.  Nancy enjoyed researching and writing southwest Kansas history, all kinds of art including gourd art, and jewelry design.

Nancy is proceeded in death by her parents, Robert and Esther Feldman, and one brother, Alan Clay Feldman.

She is survived by her son, Jay and wife Crystal Dorsey of Golden, CO, and daughter Jana and husband Mark Orth of Meade, and one brother, Glen David Feldman.  She said often that she had two great kids, four wonderful granddaughters, and six adorable great-grandkids.  She was loved and will be missed by many.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the First Baptist Church, Meade, Kansas.  Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Meade.  In accordance to her request, cremation has taken place.

The family would welcome memorials to the Meade County Historical Society in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
