Obituary

Evangeline L. "Banny" Orme, a longtime resident of Meade, Kansas, passed away in Wichita, Kansas on August 31, 2026, at the age of 89.

Banny was born September 24, 1936, in Hugoton, Kansas, at the home of her grandparents, Ivan O. and Opal G. (Simmonds) Moore. She was the daughter of Loyal H. and Vera E. Fidler.

Her childhood took her to several communities, attending public schools in Denver, Colorado; Rolla, Kansas; and Hugoton, Kansas. She moved to Meade in December 1949 and graduated from Meade High School in 1955. She continued her education at Southwestern College, McPherson College, and Wichita State University.

On August 25, 1957, Banny married Royce G. Orme in Meade. Together they built a life centered on family, community, friendship and service. They shared 48 years of marriage until Royce's death on December 6, 2005.

Banny moved to Wichita in 2008 to be closer to family.  Meade was always her home and her life was always deeply intertwined with the Meade community. On April 1, 1977, Banny and Royce assumed ownership of Fidler Mortuary from her parents. For 28 years, they served area families as owners and operators of Fidler-Orme Mortuary. Their work was much more than a profession; it was an opportunity to serve and care for friends and neighbors during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. They continued operating the mortuary until August 2004, when they sold the business to their nephew, Trevin Bachman.

Banny also spent 17 years as a program assistant for the U.S. Department of Agriculture at the ASCS office in Meade. She volunteered for many years as an EMT with the Meade Ambulance Service.

Throughout her life, Banny remained active in her community. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Meade, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 58 years, and a member of P.E.O. Chapter A in Meade before transferring to Chapter EW in Wichita. She also enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of numerous bridge groups throughout her life.

Banny will be remembered for a life devoted to family, service and community. Through her work and involvement in community organizations, she touched generations of families in and around Meade.  Just as importantly, she treasured the family and friendships that filled her nearly 90 years.  Banny's was a life rooted in Meade  and her legacy lives on in the family she loved, the community she served, and the many lives she touched along the way.

She is survived by her sons, Kipp (Melissa) Orme of Newnan, Georgia, and Dr. Darren (Marna) Orme of Wichita, Kansas; her sisters, Judy Smith of Meade and Cindy Robbins of Yuma, Arizona; six grandchildren, Dr. Michelle Alders of Wichita, Brian Orme of West Palm Beach, Florida, Garrett Orme of Denver, Colorado, and Elizabeth, Emersyn and Ellery Orme, all of Wichita; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Martin and Lance. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

Banny was preceded in death by her husband, Royce; her parents, Loyal H. and Vera E. Fidler; her sister, Vicky Pankratz; three brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
