Heinson
Feb 19, 1930 — Jul 26, 2020
Meade
MEADE - Betty J. Heinson, age 90, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 26, 2020, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
She was born on February 19, 1930, to Tom and Eva B. Gray and was raised in Meade County, where she spent most of her life. She was the youngest of 12 children including Ted, Paul, George, Sumner, Roger, Jim, Bob, Kurtis, Dorothy, Eva, Chester and Betty. When Betty was 5 years old her mother passed away and her father later remarried. She was the last of her siblings to be called home.
Betty graduated from Meade High School in 1948 and took employment as a telephone operator. She married Lester J Meggenberg in 1950 and they had 2 children, Bill and Sue Ann. Both children passed away in 2016. After her marriage to Lester, Betty worked at the Ideal Food Store in the meat department in Meade, KS. Betty and Lester divorced in 1961. On June 18, 1965, Betty married Tommy Heinson and according to Betty, he was her one true love. Betty shares often that Tommy would tell her, "I love you all there is and then some." They lived in rural Meade until Tommy's death in 1985. They had no children together.
Betty was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Meade, Kansas. Her faith was very important to her and she was always proud of the role her son Bill took in church leadership.
Betty has always taken great pride in being a good wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her 5 grandchildren Billy (Natasha) Meggenberg of Loveland, Colorado, Angie (Charlie) Niemeyer of Edmond, Oklahoma, Joe (Kristine) Meggenberg of Bixby, Oklahoma, Tia (Grant) Cheeves of Oologah, Oklahoma and Dane (Brandy) Bond of Owasso, Oklahoma. Also, 6 great grandchildren, Ava, Grayson, Beau, Hudson, Megan and Scotti, all of whom she adored.
Betty had a special love for animals, especially dogs. Her most recent canine favorite is Ziggy and she looked forward to daily lap time with him. Betty was an avid fan of the Andy Griffith Show and any movie with animals in it, "Racing Stripes" being an all time favorite! Betty loved music and singing along to the oldies and gospel music. If the sun is out and temperatures are above 70, most days Betty could be found enjoying the patio and catching some sun! She was certainly a social butterfly that adored every person she met. She loved big and loved a lot!
